Return the smoothing error through the averaging kernel.

Parameters:

• x (ndarray) – Atmospherice profile.

• x_a (ndarray) – A priori profile.

• A (ndarray) – Averaging kernel matrix.

Returns:

Smoothing error due to correlation between layers.
